Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist
Directed by Peter Sollett
Starring Michael Cera, Kat Dennings
Plot
It's been three weeks, two days, and 23 hours since Tris broke up with Nick. And now here she is at his gig, with a new guy. How could she have moved on so fast? This begins the night of Nick, Norah and Manhattan. The night of stripping nuns, hotel ice rooms, Russian food, psychotic ex-boyfriends and lovingly trashy ex-girlfriends.
Review
Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist is a stereotypical indie flick. It doesn't break any rules, deliver any surprises or make me love it. I do love indie films, but the whole reason that they operate outside the studio world is that they aren't stereotypical.
Michael Cera as Nick delivers the character is now known for in indie land. I loved Juno, and I thought Michael Cera was a lovely complement to Ellen Page. But here, he is starting to seem a little one note.
For film with a music theme in the title, there is very little emphasis on music in the film. And definitely no Infinite Playlist. Again, to compare it to Juno, the soundtrack for Juno was much stronger and had a larger presence in the film.
This review is kind of difficult to write because the film was so blah. I was left wanting a lot more.
