Fabric: It Can’t Be Trusted
Here’s the thing about fabric … fabric cannot be trusted – it stretches, shrinks, frays, slithers.
Learning the characteristics of your fabric choice before you design and cut can put you in control before you start.
Soak it or wash it (if it says you can) and if there’s any shrinkage left in the fabric this is the time to let it happen.
Understand the fabric …weight, width, fibre content, nap, how does it fall, is it bouncy, sturdy, feminine, corporate. Know what you like in fabric and buy it and get to know it…the design will come from the fabric …I find it’s easier to design with the fabric in front of me.
