I know it is surprising that a sewing teacher would have that advice - that fabric can't be trusted, but there it is.

Over the last 40 years. I started sewing pretty young! I’m sure that I have made every mistake that there could be in fabric choice and cutting and patternmaking and sewing. I made some big mistakes twice or even three times just to make sure I learnt what I needed to.

Some of the sewers who come to my workroom are very good sewers indeed. Their understanding of their own sewing machines is very good....their enthusiasm is fearless and I admire their confidence in the face of any sewing obstacle. They bring mystery boxes or bags or bundles.

Its time to start analysing wardrobe contents. If you are not up to doing this on your own it may be a good time for a visit from a Wardrobe Therapist.

My point is not that sewing is easy but with the right progression of exercises and encouragement you will be ready to start thinking out the sewing process.

It doesn't mean that your machine won't have you feeling frustration, despair, anxiety and defeat at times, and it certainly doesn't mean that you can throw the unpicker away.

I'm confident cutting into fabric. I know what Im doing. The challenge for me usually lies pretty close to the finish line!

We may have a lot of clothes in our wardrobes but... it would be much better to have a lot of the right clothes.
