Apples and Pears

Things are going a little pear-shaped for Australian women, as new studies indicate the average female is a little wider through the hips and waist than she used to be.

The average Australian woman is now about a size 16...” (Queensland Courier Mail- November, 2004)

The researchers used a 3D scanner and measured 1300 Australian women. I recall that at the same time the data was being collected in other parts of the world as well and similar results were found. According to the newspaper article the last time this kind of data had been collected was 1926.

In my lifetime of 5 decades the desired women’s body shape has taken quite a journey – Marilyn, Ursula, Twiggy, Bo, Elle, Jennifer.

Anyhow I was very pleased for womankind to have read on Friday (ninemsn-8 Jan 2010) that this year is apparently the year of the plus-size model. I don’t like the term plus-size myself.

I was and am still the size 12 I was during the later part of the last century ...but...I simply have extra bits that have collected slowly but surely around the middle bits of my body...and therefore the damn size 12 doesn’t want to float around those bits so I need a size or 2 larger and then my fabulous, small breasts get lost somewhere in the extra fabric.

Anyhow ladies ... let’s embrace our bodies and wear fabulous clothes this year. I have finally started (I’ve chosen my favourite bits of fabric that have been hanging around far too long and made patterns) and... I can help you get started as well.

During the next few weeks – visit my workroom. I’d like to meet you.

Bring a friend or two if you like. Bring a piece of fabric from your collection or bring a garment you haven’t finished or an alteration that needs doing.

Ring me first to secure a time so I can give you my full attention – Margaret 0418874991.

See you soon!
